What’s going on?

I have been following the news about our economic crisis. I have had a hard time making heads or tails of what is happening or what the solutions might be. One thing pops up over and over again in the many articles I have read. The problem, according to people in the know, is a lack of confidence. The solutions proposed are all about restoring confidence.
I am stunned that our great economy and our extensive financial systems can be impacted to this degree by a simple lack of confidence. So, either our economy is a lot more fragile than I imagined or confidence is a much more powerful force than I realized.
This has made me think about how a lack of confidence in God or a lack of self-confidence might be just as devastating to a person’s faith and life. How we build confidence is the $1000 question both for those working on our economy and for those who struggle with low self-esteem or a lack of faith.
How do you build confidence in God or in yourself? Leave your comments for others to read.

Seems certain parts of my character and confidence have been tested for the last 2-3 years, especially. I’ve whined, been angry, and basically felt lost and alone. But I know I wasn’t. What I have learned is the more I study God’s word, fellowship with other believers, His promises, devotions, Christian Contempory music, and my daily “Reminders from God” (on my google page), it gives me a sense of security that I can’t get from any other source or people. God plants a firm foundation in me as I continue my walk in seeking His face. All these sources are important but the way I can really see how much God has done in me is when I stop reacting and start acting the way that pleases God when I encounter testy situations. I quietly, silently, prayerfully reaffirm His promises, even when it isn’t visibly apparent. Many times I don’t see on the surface what God is doing in the making. In knowing and being reminded by His guiding hand; His sovereignty & omnipresence is what keeps me grounded and confident of a God that is the same today, tommorrow, and forever no matter the circumstance.
