Blacked Out
Got away with my wife to Cannon Beach a couple of weeks ago. First time in almost a year. Our little vacation became more of an adventure than we imagined. Lots of rain had swollen all the creeks and rivers on the northern coast. We almost got stuck in Seaside when Hwy. 101 flooded (see video). When we got to Cannon Beach the power went out and was out for about 24 hours. With trees down and rivers flooding Hwy. 101, we were stuck in Cannon Beach with no electricity or heat. It was kind of cool at first. We found one restaurant that had a gas fired grill and we ate by candlelight. Pretty romantic but it got old quick as we only had a flashlight for our room and no hot water. With the power still off the next morning and Cannon Beach still isolated from the outside world, I went hunting for food. The whole thing felt so strange. You don’t realize how much you take for granted until you don’t have it.
Here was the surreal part for me. We didn’t have electricity, no hot water, lacked food, and couldn’t get out of town, BUT my cell phone with data services worked just fine! So I couldn’t take a shower but I could call anyone and even get on the internet!
When strange things like this happen, God often uses it to teach me some lesson. Here is what I got. No matter how crazy or bad life gets, I always have a way of connecting with God.
