Community Service Plan Formed!

We are excited to announce the formation of a plan to help our church become more involved in the community by showing Jesus’ love in practical ways. Along with the following plans approval the Board also appointed Cheri Brokaw as the Church’s “Volunteer Coordinator”. Cheri has recently retired after more than 25 years working in the social service industry here in Eugene and has extensive knowledge of the many non-profits in our community. We will be forming a team at our next Members Meeting (May 1st) to begin putting this plan into action.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PLAN

OUR OBJECTIVES:
• That we become a significant part of our community through strategic partnerships with government, community groups, and other churches where we meet needs, build relationships, and share our faith.
• That we develop a community service mindset where we share God’s love in practical ways to our community. The goal would be to touch four people in our community for every one person in attendance in our church services.
OUR STRATEGY: To meet needs, develop relationships, and when appropriate, share our faith.
• Instead of recreating the wheel, we will seek to partner with other churches, community groups, and social service agencies providing volunteers, resources, and/or facilities.
• We reserve the right to share our faith in these partnerships but only when initiated by those whom we are serving. The sharing of our faith will be limited to the sharing of our personal experiences and will not be done in an argumentative of pushy way.
• Our goal would be to create an environment in the church were volunteering in the community would be considered a normal part of living out ones faith.
OUR PLAN:
• Appoint a volunteer coordinator to be a liaison between our church and the community.
• Develop a community service team.
• Survey the congregation to see how people are already serving in the community and how we might help in the service they are already doing.
• Bring in speakers on Sunday morning to share about different opportunities.
• Provide the congregation opportunities to serve once every month or two.
• Look for opportunities for ongoing volunteer work that matches our congregations interests and skills.
• Help individuals who want to volunteer connect with groups, or organizations that fit their interests and skills.
